    Frequently asked questions

Which bitrate should I choose for MP3?

192 kbps sounds excellent for music and keeps files small; 320 kbps is the maximum. For speech and podcasts, 96 kbps or 128 kbps mono is plenty.

Does converting FLAC or WAV to MP3 lose quality?

MP3 is a lossy format, but at 192–320 kbps the difference is practically inaudible. Keep the original if you need a perfect archive.

Can I convert iPhone voice memos?

Yes — voice memos are M4A files. Choose MP3 to share them with anyone.

    Are my files uploaded?

No. FileCrafty processes video and audio inside your browser using your device’s own media engine, so nothing is uploaded — it even works offline once the page has loaded.

    Which browsers are supported?

Recent Chrome, Edge and Safari work best because they can encode MP4 (H.264 + AAC). Firefox works for most files. On phones, very long or 4K videos may be too big for the available memory.
